Respite Care

Care at Home. Time for You to Recharge.

Caring for a child with a disability or special health care needs can be rewarding,
but every caregiver needs time to rest, recharge, and take care of other responsibilities.

High Hopes at Home, a division of High Hopes Child Care, provides in-home respite care
for eligible children and families. Respite allows your child to receive individualized
care and supervision in the comfort of home while giving you a temporary break from
your caregiving responsibilities.

What Is Respite Care?

Respite is short-term care designed to provide temporary relief to a child’s usual caregiver.

Respite may give you time to:

  • Run errands or attend appointments
  • Spend time with other children or family members
  • Take care of personal responsibilities
  • Attend an activity or event
  • Rest and recharge
  • Take care of your own health and well-being

How Can My Child Qualify?

High Hopes provides in-home respite care through two Nebraska programs,
depending on your family’s eligibility.

Respite may only be received from one funding source at a time.

Nebraska Aged & Disabled (AD) Waiver

Children enrolled in Nebraska’s Aged & Disabled (AD) Waiver may be authorized
to receive Respite as part of their individual service plan. Your child’s DHHS
Service Coordinator determines eligibility and the amount of Respite authorized.

Nebraska Lifespan Respite Services Program

Families who are not receiving respite through another government program may be
eligible for assistance through Nebraska’s Lifespan Respite Services Program.
This program helps provide temporary relief to unpaid family caregivers who provide
ongoing care for an individual with special needs. Eligibility and funding requirements apply.

Care Where Your Child Is Most Comfortable

High Hopes provides respite care in your child’s home, allowing your child
to remain in familiar surroundings while you take the break you need.

Care is individualized based on your child’s needs and the requirements of the
program funding their services.

Do You Already Have Someone You Trust?

You may already have a trusted family member, friend, or other individual you would
like to provide respite for your child.

Depending on the funding program and applicable requirements, that individual may
be able to become an approved respite caregiver. High Hopes can help guide prospective
caregivers through the applicable employment, screening, training, and onboarding requirements.
