Become a Paid Caregiver for Your Child

New Opportunities through Nebraska’s A&D Waiver – Effective July 1, 2025

High Hopes is proud to support families of children with disabilities by helping parents become paid caregivers through Nebraska’s Aged & Disabled (A&D) Waiver under the LRI Personal Care for Extraordinary Care option. As of July 1, 2025, parents of minor children are eligible to receive Medicaid reimbursement for providing care if they are employed by an approved agency.

Who Is Eligible?

  • Children must be under age 19
  • Must be enrolled in Nebraska’s Aged & Disabled (A&D) Waiver
  • Children must qualify for Nebraska Medicaid and meet disability and level-of-care criteria
  • Parents must be hired by and work through an approved provider agency like High Hopes

What Services Can Parent-Providers Deliver?

  • Personal care support (e.g., help with daily living activities)

  • Enrollment and training as an agency provider
  • Background checks and credentialing
  • Compliance with DHHS and Medicaid regulations
  • Ongoing support, oversight, and billing

Next Steps for Interested Families

  1. Contact your child’s DHHS Service Coordinator to verify waiver eligibility
  2. Let them know you are interested in becoming an agency-employed caregiver
  3. Submit your employment application to High Hopes to begin the onboarding process
  4. Once hired by High Hopes, ask your Service Coordinator to authorize services
